Riding through the streets of Baltimore, which went from retro-chic to dangerous and then back to retro-chic, was hampered by the weather being unbelievably muggy. They needed a thunderstorm to relieve the heat. Just like Sadie needed Taylor to say something to relieve the pressure she felt between them.

After they parted ways with the attorney, Taylor and Sadie hardly said two words to one another. It was a new experience to feel Taylor pissed off. He was a force to be reckoned with. Sadie knew that what had happened in the bar was not her fault, but everything was hitting her.

The fire, being drunk and not remembering, Diego, losing her job, the scary bridge, and now this; it was too much. She thought that Taylor was angry with her and she didn’t understand why, but it was tough to take. The stiffness in his body, the refusal to speak, it bothered her and she wished she could figure out a way to smooth things over. She knew she’d made mistakes, but not all of this was her fault.

He’d lived in the city before he moved in with Rick in Ocean City, so he made his way easily over to the row house where he and Sadie would be staying.

All the way up to the time they knocked on the door of their hosts and entered, he still had not said a word. Finally, as they were inside, Taylor blew up. At the same time, thunder rumbled in the sky.

“I’m going to kill that bastard!” he shouted.

The bang of thunder on the row house combined with Taylor’s rage felt like the ancient roman gods were waging war. It was so loud. So fierce.

Adam, Taylor’s buddy and fellow crew member, chuckled, “Dude, calm down.”

Sadie couldn’t believe he laughed, but it was the thing to diffuse Taylor’s explosion. Callie, Adam’s girl, reached around her enormous boyfriend to say hi to Sadie. They had met before when Adam brought her over to her house.

Taylor took a deep breath and explained, “We just came from Carl’s; couldn’t have our meeting because Diego Rodenas tried his best to get one of us arrested. Remember the fucker at the Skye Bar? The Las Pulgas? We just left. Huge melee.”

“Sit down and let’s talk about this,” said Adam, Callie staying ducked behind him. “I’m only understanding half of what you’re saying.”

Sadie and Taylor followed Callie and Adam into their living room. Right off the bat, Sadie studied the architecture to try to figure out the age of the home. Their home was about half a century older than her home. She imagined prior generations living in the house, all the way back to when it was first built. It was a thing she did.

She would rather imagine someone else’s past lives than come to grips with the fact that she had just been in a biker bar where a crazed guy pulled a gun and another had shoved her hard.

“Sadie?” asked Taylor.

“What?” she replied, breaking from her day-dream.

“We were just talking and the guy came out of nowhere.
